2012 Uni High Senior – Leah
Senior portraits are always alot of fun. When you add a gorgeous day, dramtic skies and a beautiful fashion savvy senior, it doesn’t get much better than that! Leah is a Senior at University High School in Urbana IL. She is very into photography and architecture and fashion, so the U of I campus was a great backdrop for her incredible photoshoot! We climbed trees, crawled over walls, dodged ultimate frisbee players, got upclose and personal with a rosebush and ultimately toughed out being swarmeed by mosquitoes to get some awesome photographs. Here are a few of my favs!

2012 Fisher Senior – Justin
Justin is another of my three season athletes that is next to impossible to find time in their schedule! Fortunately we carved out a few hours and had not only wonderful weather, but a gorgeous sunset to play with. He isn’t a smiley kinda guy, but he does serious well and when he does smile, its great! We mostly hung out in the alleys and empty lots of downtown Fisher, where there is ambience galore if you know where to look! He was a great sport, humoring the crazy lady with the camera and we got some great stuff as a result!
2011 Fisher Fall Sports Poster
Created by yours truly and featuring photos of your favorite Senior Fall Sports Athletes! They will be available from the Fisher Sports Boosters beginning on Friday!
2012 Fisher Senior – Ashley
Ashley’s senior portrait sitting was on the Uof I campus. She wanted trees, and flowers, and grasses and cool architecture, and what better place than campus! We started at Japan House with their beautiful scuptural trees and outdoor spaces. Then we hiked to the Idea Gardens, with gorgeous flowers and grasses. Finally we headed to east campus and Krannert, the Spurlock Museum and the Administration Building for cool brick, glass (for reflections) and water. Its great to keep finding and experiencing new places and new looks in ordinary places. Ashley was super fun to work with and we got some just incredible photos!!
2012 Fisher Senior – Logan
Logan’s senior portrait sitting was such a trip! We planned very carefully to accomodate as many of her ideas and concepts as possible into a single shoot. We chose Lake of the Woods Botanical Gardens as our starting point because of the many different venues in one place and ease of access when hauling props! ( like a chaise lounge) As you can tell, we got several different looks from that wonderful location! She was also insistent upon a piano shot, and not a normal sitting on the bench playing the piano, but something dramatic and unusual. I think we managed it! And last, but not least, in keeping with my two recurring themes this year ( fire and water) we ended up in her backyard after dark, shooting the rain shot. Love it when it all comes together and totally ROCKS!!!
2012 Monticello Senior – Jesse
Jesse is from Monticello High School. Since it was so close, I just had to take her to Allerton Park for her senior portrait session! We found some great places to use as background, and Jesse was such a great model to work with! We were incredibly lucky that the weather cooled down and was just simply beautiful for her shoot! She had a special request that we do a few shots with her very best friends, so we have tacked on some BFF shots for you to see as well.
Fall Studio Hours
Our fall studio hours are Monday – Thursday: whenever you can catch me in, which will be mostly mornings and early afternoons before 3. Friday - by appointment only. If you need to reach me, call 217-239-1658.
Fisher Family Portraits – The Hamiltons
I love shooting portraits of families with small children. You never know what to expect! We had a lovely evening at the Lake of the Woods Botanical Gardens and 5 wonderful and 3 unpredictable subjects! Every family is so unique, and I love it when I can get them all together like this first photo, as one big squishy, hugging unit. It says to me; “this is my family and we stick together. Us against the world”. And then there are times where you have to work with what you have, which in this case was a 14 month old who was done being held…She wanted down, so we gave her down….and walking! Every shoot has hilarious outtakes and this one in particular was just too funny! Our final image here is way outside any concept of traditional, but if you have ever had kids and a swingset, you can so totally relate and remember. I have said before, I want my photographs to tell stories, and I think the story titled Family has been told here well!
2012 senior – Parker in Action
I give my senior athletes the option of having some sports action type shots taken as part of their senior portrait sitting. We had a hold-up getting to shoot Parker’s basketball action shots, but finally we did and here are a few for your viewing pleasure! Enjoy! ( I would love to get feedback on the last shot, Motion in BW )
2012 Fisher Senior – Zach
One of Zach’s passions in life is fishing, so it came as no surprise that he wanted some shots on the water in a boat. We were fortunate to have a spectacular sunset as a backdrop for the last few images of the night. We hit lots of fun places all around Fisher, including a friend’s barn, a deserted corn crib, woods and a field with the tallest corn he had ever seen! We were so lucky to be able to get his shoot in before football season and school start! I feel like we got lots of different images and looks for him! I cannot wait for him and his parents to see all of the other images waiting for them! Here are a few of my favorites!
2012 Fisher Senior – Carson
Last night’s 2012 senior portrait was Carson. Carson came to the shoot with several really good ideas and a willingness to give any of my crazy ones a try. Carson is a three season, multisport athlete, but he is also a bit of a ham and chose to portray his athletic life in a less than serious, but accurate way. I think anyone who has school and sports is constantly trying to juggle everything! Then we got to shooting his football shots and he got down to business and intense, just look at those eyes! After the sports, we were off to the lake where we shot lots of images in and around. This one with the sky reflected in the water is probably one of my favs from the shoot. I love reflections especially when you get to do something really cool with them. Last but not least, we went to a favorite spot with a campfire. The sunset last night was amazing and was a perfect background!
Hanna at 6!
Do you remember what you were into at age 6? Granted it was a while ago, but I sure don’t. Well, Hanna’s mom is making sure that she never forgets all of the fun things that are so important to her at age 6! Hanna’s portraits reflect her girlie girl outlook, her serious side, her artistic flair and her love of swimming. Pretty cool for only being 6! I wonder what 7 will bring?
2012 Fisher Senior – Parker
This 2012 senior gets bonus points for effort. Not only was his senior portrait sitting on a hot July day, but he had just come from football practice. Parker doesn’t let any grass grow under his feet participating in multiple sports both during the school year AND during the summer. He wanted to find a way, in a single shot, to convey his passion for football, basketball and baseball. I think we managed it well. He was also very much about nature and outdoors, so we utilized an old bridge with lots of wonderful mature shade trees, and also the new nature preserve just south of Fisher. The meadows there were amazing,( but the mosquitos were vicious). He’s got a great smile (even if his mom had to ham it up to get him to laugh!) and lots of enthusiasm!
Fisher Kids Ava – 6 months!
Ava’s 6 month portraits were such a hoot! Her mom chose to have me shoot at their house as opposed to the studio, that way big sisters could go do their own thing while littlest sister was being photographed! But, in the way of big sisters, they chose to stay close and “help!” Fortunately, Ava thinks her big sisters are the best and very, very funny too!
2012 Hot Fisher Senior- Connor
Literally, the heat index was like 115 degrees, but Connor is an absolute doll, so we made the best of it. We began in downtown Champaign, I just love the brown marble of the News Gazette building, and we were able to shoot on the north side, out of the sun and wind. Bentley, her dog, was the secondary star of this shoot venue, then he went home with grandma! We hit a couple of other fun places like the old train station,( I love the brick drive) and the outdoor seating at Cafe Luna and their incredible “grafitti” walls! Then we were off to campus and the quad while there are very few students around! And at the end of a long, very hot session, she had a bit of a splash in the fountain!!!
Essence of Summer
Sometimes when I shoot my goal is to trigger a happy memory. Something that makes you smile just remembering. This essence of summer shoot was just that kind of shoot. Its July in the midwest: its hot, its sunny and its sticky. What do kids do in the summertime? They play in the water, get a little rowdy and eat popsicles. I love this shoot, because it is timeless and it makes me smile. I have memories of summer days just like this, and I know my kids do as well. Someday, hopefully, their kids will also discover the joy of running thru the sprinkler and eating messy popsicles. Its what summertime is all about. I hope I have evoked similiar memories for you with this fun little shoot. Hopefully I made you smile!
Exuberant Senior Pictures – Josie
x·u·ber·ant 1. Filled with or characterized by a lively energy and excitement. This definition should have Josie’s picture right next to it!!! Josie is one of those people just make you want to smile, grin actually. She is very sure of what she wants and what she likes, and she sparkles! ( Not the glitter kind of sparkle, the personality kind) We started at my secret grafitti walls on the U of I campus, and then we moved on to Meadowbrook Park in southeast Urbana for its beautiful trees and prarie vistas. While there we found this awesome shelter made out of branches with a very very cool garden bench beneath it! Finally Josie got to cool off in this beautiful little private pond where she dove and splashed and generally cooled off in grand style.
Beginnings – Elias is 6!
Elias is six and at the beginning of so many wonderful adventures and discoveries. I love watching him grow and how his interests change from year to year. This year his interests are Star Wars, football and baseball. I think its so cool that he will be able to look back someday and see himself as a beginner, just figuring everything out for the first time. We were in a small park close to home, and we were able to photograph him doing all of the things he is excited about. And when we were done with the photos that he considered most important to him, we also photographed his little sister Leah and his family. As always, I am honored to be asked to tell the story of their family and how it changes from year to year!
Miss B with her hat and boots
Boots and hats…. I love them both and when you put them on an adorable baby girl, well, it doesn’t get much more fun! The third time was the charm for getting this portrait session shot, but it was so worth the wait. Brooklyn is such a doll, and we just had a wonderful time seeing the world thru the eyes of an almost two year old. I think the story told in these images is honest and beautiful, and it doesn’t get any better than that!
2012 Senior – Cameron
I had another awesome and unique Senior Portrait sitting last night! This senior with the wonderful smile is Cameron, and he is a study in contrasts. He gets bonus points for preparedness, and bigger points for being so laid back about it! He was equally at home on the soccer field or in the woods. Equally comfortable in flannel shirt and jeans or a suit….Tied his own tie with a full windsor knot, no less! I always think of him as being very outgoing and social, but his favorite place is in the woods, well away from anyone. That he had such a cool favorite spot where he wanted to be photographed just really made my day! Playing in and around the woods was wonderful, right up until the point that I started thinking about ticks being in the woods, and I got the “itchyheebeegeebees!” So here are a few sneak peek photos from Cameron’s senior shoot….Leave a comment and let me know what you think!!!
2012 Senior – Marissa
Marissa didn’t know it yet, but she’s definately an Anthropologie girl. Her concepts for her senior shoots and sense of style are anthro all the way. To capitalize on this, we needed a really cool location……and we found it at Allerton Park in Monticello. Beautiful vistas, incredible architecture and brickwork, reflecting pools and Fu Dog Gardens were all in one amazing location. We even saw deer! Marissa is an incredibly outgoing, bubbly kind of person, but she also has this very centered, calm, serious quality as well. She makes my job very easy, and I feel that we captured elements of both the fun side and the serious side of this 2012 senior. Be sure to leave a comment and let me know what you think!
Kid pictures – So very sweet!
I just love shooting these darling little girls! We went to Lake of the Woods Botanical Gardens so we would have lots of room to run with super girl capes, chase bubbles, watch fish and have a little picnic. I wish I had half the energy of the two older girls and Ava is such a little doll! The love between these siblings is so obvious and so real…..I am constantly in awe. Take a look for yourself and let me know what you think!
2012 Senior – Jacy
Jacy chose to have a more urban theme for her Senior portraits, so we went down to Champaign and found all kinds of color and texture for backgrounds and a water fountain to play in! During our planning session, she brought up her love for sidewalk chalk, so we paid homage to her chalk artistry. Finally we went to the lake at Greenwood acres where she shows us just how elegant you can be in a beat-up rowboat! Silly, serious, intense, dramatic and just plain beautiful are all words that I would use to sum up Jacy’s senior photos. Take a look and let us know what you think!
Maddie – Just because!
Maddie’s “just because” shoot is a beautiful example of the joys and sorrows of being 13. 13 is rough to say the least, but I think 13 year old girls have it much rougher than boys. Still treated like a kid, wanting to be older, dealing with braces, its all just a jumble of stuff. I think Miss Maddie has a pretty good handle on things; kid enough to swing and laugh at my contortions while trying to get the shot, and beautiful enough to be confident in front of the camera and a smile that is just amazing, braces and all! I hope someday she can look back at these beautiful photos and thank her mom for thinking to capture this time in her life.
Baby pictures – Amelia at 3 months
Baby pictures are a wonderful study of facial expression in their truest form. They have not yet learned to smile for the camera, or to yell “cheese” over and over again. Conversely, they often express their feelings by screaming at the top of their lungs with displeasure at the strange woman with the black box pointed at them. Amelia alternated between cooing and “talking” with her mom and expressing her displeasure with me. I just love the range of expressions and emotions we captured during her 3 month portrait sitting!
Senior pictures – Dylan
Dylan’s senior pictures were an absolute blast to shoot, with one exception….It was a very hot, humid 97 degrees outside. Dylan however, kept his cool! We shot basketball, junkyard, rustic brick walls, letterman jackets, and then………..the lake. And thru it all, he was just amazing!!!
2012 Senior Pictures – First official shoot!
Elyssa is my very first official senior shoot of the 2012 class. Elyssa was the brave one, the one who didn’t hang back to see what others would do. She didn’t waver on what to wear, where to go, when is perfect….She went first. First is gutsy and hard, especially when it is as hot as it has been here in Central Illinois, but as you can see she sailed thru this senior portrait shoot beautifully.
New Product – Picture Folio
I am so excited… I love getting new products in, especially when they are just so darn fun! This is a sample of our new picture folio in the 5×7 size. This size folio features either 4 or 6 images and is completely custom-designed. The 8×10 folio (not pictured) features either 6 or 8 images and is also completely custom-designed. These are so not-your-momma’s-senior-picture-folios! Trust me, I am old enough to remember the faux leather slip-in folios of the 1980′s. These are ssoooosoooooo much better/prettier/cooler!
Featured on this folio is Josie, you may remember her from a few posts ago. She is one of my beautiful seniors on my studio crew and her story session was her passion for chocolate; Chocolate is a girl’s best friend. Josie is girl after my own heart and we had such a blast with chocolate kisses, chocolate brownies, chocolate covered strawberries( her favorite) and these awesome individual cakes from The Cake Artist’s Studio. While I love the cover shot of her with kisses raining down upon her, my absolute, hands-down favorite is the back cover, because I can completely relate – kicked back, feet up and a pan of brownies. Who wouldn’t love that!
FYI – Holiday closing

Hanna – a short story
I had the opportunity to photograph little Miss Hanna in a beautiful field of wild mustard on one of the few really pretty days we have had so far. I just love how the red of her dress pops with the yellow! And the pictures with her mom, I swear I can still hear the giggles!
Track – HOIC Conference
Most of these were taken at the HOIC High School Track and Field Conference meet in Gibson City. This was on a day better suited to a cozy fire and a cup of hot chocolate, but these gals and guys were out in the elements doing what they do….run, jump, throw. Congrats to the Fisher High School Girls and Boys Track teams.

2011 Senior – Nick
Nick is a 2011 senior, in Virginia. Fortunately for me, he has alot of family here in Fisher IL and when the family made plans to spend part of their spring break here, they contacted me about shooting his senior pictures! He is one of those people who has a great serious face, the kind that is intense without looking mad. He does also have a great smile that his mom kept reminding him about. We lucked out in that the weather was merely drizzling instead of the predicted downpour and we could go out and about, shooting on location. We finished up in the studio, showing off his football jersey and the muscles that go with it!
Portraits of Children – Pretty in Pink!
Children’s portraits are always a big unknown. The children that were shy and quiet one day are outgoing and won’t sit still the next! These two little darlings were full of energy and oh so pretty in their little pink dresses! The upside is that being a kid myself, I usually manage to capture one or two special moments like these!

Engagement Pictures!
As most of you know, I no longer shoot weddings for many reasons. However, I do get to have almost as much fun shooting engagement pictures and “day after” shoots. A day of nice weather insured that Jamie and her fiancee Steve got to have their engagement pictures taken outdoors! I am so lucky to have such wonderful clients who like to have fun! We played in the woods, found an old car door, and hiked to a caboose. We were able to capture many, many creative and unique images for such a great couple! Congrats to Jamie and Steve!

ltpkids – newborn portrait
Our newborn portrait this week is Amelia Bel. She had definate ideas about how she would pose and what poses she liked and didn’t like, and when she was done. She did graciously allow mom and dad to share in her portrait experience!
ltpkids portraits – Aubrie and baby Ava
Aubrie is one of those wonderful little girls who looks equally adorable showing her dance moves, hugging her baby sister or taking a moment. We have had lots of fun with her and her older sister, and now we also have her new baby sister Ava!
Portraits of little Miss B
The wonderful thing about portraits of young children is the infinate expressions that are captured. The look of wonder, the “I’m busy” look and the absolutely adorable angel look; While unique to each child, they are recognized by mothers everywhere. Part of the joy of photographing children is remembering my own boys as small children, and more importantly, knowing that the portraits I make will capture forever these expressions for other moms to look back on and remember! Yet another reason why I love my job!
