Environmental portraits – Brewmaster

environmental portrait - brewmaster

Award winning brewmaster, Anthony Benjamin, allowed me to spend part of a day watching and photographing the science and magic of creating beer at Triptych Brewing in Savoy IL. One of the key things I learned is that along with the science and magic, making beer is a lot of hard work, and a lot of patience. This amazing microbrewery, just off the beaten path known as South Neil, does not offer food or wine, just a welcoming place to gather and enjoy beer that was created on site. Beers with names like “Blueberry Blonde” and “Hoppy Anniversary”  indicate immediately  that you are in for a unique tasting experience. Attention to detail, sourcing locally whenever possible and love are just a few of the ingredients contributing to the success of this unique microbrewery right here in the Champaign-Urbana-Savoy area!

Environmental Portrait – Woodworker

Environmental portrait of a woodworker

When Bruce agreed to be part of my portfolio, I knew he had a woodshop and that he had built a few pieces of furniture….Little did I realize the level of detail and craftsmanship that he has achieved. As paint is to a painter and stone is to a sculptor, wood is to Bruce. He begins with an idea and rough cut lumber…and through process and creativity combined skill, creates beauty that will function and last a lifetime. What a great talent to have!

Environmental Portraits – The Urbana Butcher

Environmental Portait -chef/butcher

Meet Josh of the Urbana Butcher Shop on Main Street in Downtown Urbana. Josh knows good meat: Organic, free range and/or grass-fed as opposed to caged, antibiotic and hormone filled.  As a trained Chef, he creates interesting and unusual offerings such as house-made Saucisson Sec, Pancetta, Chorizo, Lardo and Headcheese. His training also extends to the details, crown roasts are frenched, loins are rolled and tied and everything is wrapped in the traditional white butchers paper and tied with twine.  I was fortunate to photograph the environmental portraits on a day they were cutting up a hog. Watching the process is a complete learning experience and Josh was great about explaining it to me as I was snapping away. If you are serious about food in the Champaign-Urbana Area, the Urbana Butcher Shop is a must go place!

Environmental Portraits – Chiropractor

Environmental Portrait of a chiropractor

I went to Aaron, the awesome chiropractor local to me here in Fisher IL, and told him I had some crazy ideas for photographs of chiropractors and would he be interested….Lucky for me, he said yes. It was a bit challenging working around the tables and such in a small office, but I think overall we got some cool and unique images that reflect his passion for what he does!

My favorite images from this shoot as well as several other environmental portrait shoots will be available for viewing along with my senior work at the Boneyard Artwalk April 10-13. I will be at H2O Salon in Urbana and at the Village of Fisher Community Center on Sunday afternoon.

A Love Story – Edwards Celebrate 45 years

Love stories

Once upon a time, many years ago, a young man was responsible for taking the daily deposit from his job to the bank. And day after day, he made sure to stand in the same teller’s line. Eventually, he worked up the courage to ask her out. She was unsure though, maybe she shouldn’t go with this brash young man from her teller line. “Go” said her co-workers, “its not like you are gonna marry him…” So she said yes.  And she did. Now they are happily celebrating their 45th wedding anniversary on April 5! Congratulations to Larry and Dorothy Edwards!

Environmental Portraits – Mr. Lucky

Environmental portrait - author and muse

I tell stories with pictures. Ron Hoffman tells stories with words and illustrations. Lucky, his aptly named rescue kitty, is the inspiration and main character of his first children’s book titled Mr. Lucky. Turns out Lucky is also quite a ham as he poses with Ron! Watch for the book, Mr. Lucky, online and in bookstores later this year!

Urbana Family – Unportrait

“We want a family portrait, but not the posed, cheesey, everybody sit still kind” were the requirements for this family’s portrait shoot! Knowing that Ja Nelle and her husband Chris are  incredibly creative, plus having three kids under the age of 8, I knew I would have to come up with something completely out of the box….And huge mess aside, I think we did it! family unportrait _ the clean versionFamily unportrait_ getting paintedFamily unportrait_kidsFamily Unportrait_ getting messyFamily Unportrait _let me hug youFamily Unportrait _ painted family

Mother daughter portraits- Chris and Amy

Amy contacted me way back in April about doing a mother-daughter photo shoot with her mom for Mother’s day….except with Amy and her husband graduating college and moving, it couldn’t happen till last week! Chris was totally surprised, and Amy showed us her girly side. It was a wonderful shoot with these two women! Hair and makeup by Sarah Kellems.

Photostory – Andrea and Luke, a lovestory

This photo lovestory is about Andrea and Luke.  They met thru the internet, fell in love, acquired a house, three dogs and a cat. Their wedding is in August.  Andrea is so beautiful and vivacious and just plain funny. She danced and laughed and snuggled with Luke. Luke considered himself more of a handsome prop. He was anything but a prop, rubbing noses and slow dancing with his soon-to-be wife. And he got a big smile on his face whenever he talked about Andrea. Theirs isn’t a conventional fairytale, its a beautiful lovestory. Hair and makeup by Leah Brown.

Fisher Senior 2012 – In the cornfield

When Jacy and I sat down for her senior portrait planning session back in June, she was adamant about saving some shots for the fall, so she could be photographed in her grampa’s corn field. Its fall, and we totally lucked out with our timing; Jacy had a free hour, the weather was perfect and grampa had harvested  just enough to give us several places to photograph. I had reupholstered a chair last spring, and my intern, Carli, and I decided that this would be its debut shoot. I love the contrast of the rough cornstalks against the soft of her dress and the velvet chair. The moody grey skies were a great backdrop for the yellow of the corn which just happens to be the same shade as her hair….And Jacy is beautiful as always! Special thanks to grampa for hauling our gear and props about and creating the perfect stage for our images!

Champaign KId Pictures – Leah is 4!

Its so, so much fun to photograph children, especially when you have been doing so since they were born! This is Leah on the occasion of her Fourth Birthday!  She is so bright and active, she reminds me of a butterfly, flitting from person to person and place to place!  I just love the juxtaposition of the pink dress and the bare feet, especially as she swings her bat at the pinata!  Happy Birthday Leah! So, you’re thinking about Senior Portraits…

As you may have noticed, we do a few high school senior portraits here! As the end of summer looms, I start getting lots of calls wanting to know more about our senior portraits. So I am about to embark on a shameless plug for my studio and why you should bring your senior here!( ‘Cause its my blog and all!)

I am a one woman studio, I shoot on Monday and Wednesday in the late afternoon and early evening. I then schedule ordering sessions on Tuesday and Thursday. Yes, if you had your pictures done with me on Monday or Wednesday, I CAN have them ready the following day. You just have to tell me that is what you want to do!  On days that I am not shooting or meeting with clients, I am shooting sports action for Fisher High School and area papers.

The ordering session is when you will see your images for the first time, projected bigger than life on our studio wall! I do expect you to place your order at this time, and half of the order total is required as a deposit with the balance due when everything is picked up! My LTPSENIOR Crew has coupon cards good for $$ off.

One very unique thing about my studio is that we don’t limit your poses. Often you will see packages that will say ” so many 5×7’s  and 8x 10’s from 3 poses”.  At Laura Trovillion Photography when we state” XX number of gift prints in a package,” every single one can be different.

This year we are offering custom wall prints framed, matted and framed, gallery wrapped canvas and on metal. If you haven’t seen these, you need to stop in and lay your eyes on these awesome options as well as our new wallet tins, and pursbooks!

Which brings me to  our ever popular books. There are two book options: first is our Storybook. Its called a storybook, because it tells the WHOLE STORY of your senior shoot. It is  a custom hardbound book, with layflat UV coated pages and unique layouts featuring multiple images per spread. Storybooks are  available as an 8×8 or new 10 x 10 size.  Can you say WOW? The second is our sessionbook –  its a custom hardbound offset press book. The covers are custom designed and each page has one image in a fine art format. The session book is offered in the traditional 8×8 size and also our new 10 x 10 size.

I will contact you about a week before your senior portrait sitting to discuss what you want, what your parents want, where you want to go and how we are going to make this all happen. We make a plan. Plans are good. If we don’t have a plan before your sitting, we will end up spending a chunk of your sitting…making a plan. I am a pretty creative person and we have done some pretty wild things, but I have to have a starting point and an idea of what you want, and without those, we are just spitting into the wind….and that’s not fun for anybody!

As far as the sittings go, I am pretty much game for anything short of jumping out of a plane. I have shot all over Central Illinois and have found some really, really cool places to shoot. And I am constantly on the lookout for the next awesome idea/shooting venue!

And that my friends is my shameless plug for Laura Trovillion Photography Senior Portraits!  We currently have a few openings still available in September, so give me a call at 217-239-1658. We will begin booking family sessions for holiday cards and gifts on October 3!

Stay tuned right here for my latest senior….Parker Perrero!

Portrait of a young adult- Serena

This is Serena at 21. I love the idea of commemorating special birthdays with portraits. It creates a running dialogue in the story of your life. We had an amazing evening to shoot. It was on the warm side without being meltdown hot and there was just a touch of a breeze. We shot mostly around the U of I  campus, taking advantage of the students being gone. There are so many great places to shoot around the campus area. Serena was just amazing, and we had so much fun!!!
