2017 Heritage Senior – Jacob
Gorgeous weather…Fun places to photograph…Awesome senior…Need I say more?
Sneak Peek – Fiona 2016
I promised you gorgeous and drama…We’ve got gorgeous and drama! We also have attitude and a twist. Yep a twist that I don’t get to photograph everyday. You see this gal is more than a beautiful person and pretty face, she is Army National Guard. How cool is that?
You go, girl!
Sneak Peek – Leighanne 2016
Here are a few more images from my senior shoot with Leighanne, a senior at Urbana High School. Super fun and creative and absolutely gorgeous as well!
Sneak Peek – Daniel
I promised you fire…So I am showing you the hockey puck on fire shot, I am just not sure its completely finished yet. Still need to shoot inside the hockey rink and get some background stuff, as well as some way cool shots on the ice, but that’s for another day. This was a fun, fun shoot. Daniel was an easy guy to work with and I feel like we got some great expressions. We hit all of the fun points: Hockey, fire, graffiti and an awesome car!
2015 St. Thomas- More Senior – Vaishali
Spring seniors always make me nervous. I would love nothing more than to give them awesome outdoor photos, but the weather in the spring is far from co-operative. Often there is little more than leaden skies and muddy ground, hardly the beautiful background these seniors dream of. When Vaishali contacted me in late March wanting outdoor photos with a lot of “nature” I was very nervous. Stressed even. I was even more so after scouting locations and not a pretty location to be had. Plans B,C,D were forming in my head to give some resemblance of the pretty outdoor backgrounds she wanted. And then we had 3 or 4 days of beautiful warm weather, and all the stress was for naught. The grass greened up and the trees started blooming and the beautiful Vaishali got her beautiful backgrounds for her senior photos. Normally I show 5 images for a sneak peek, but the last was so much fun, I wanted to include it!
Fisher 2015 Senior – Nolan
I enjoy it when guys come in and actually talk about what they want to do for senior portraits.Even though he is kinda quiet, Nolan had some definite ideas and lots of game! ( and he gets bonus points for a) laughing at my lame joke and b) there was fire involved!) Yeah, he gets to see those first…..watch facebook in about a week to see some way cool baseball sportraits!
Alley – Super sneak peek!
It was probably the hottest day of the summer, but that didn’t stop Alley from totally owning her senior portrait shoot! This is one of my favorites with this gorgeous raspberry color dress and the breeze moving her hair. She has such an open natural smile, it makes you smile back without even thinking about it. Not very often I come home from a shoot and my face hurts from smiling so much!!!! So pop back early next week to see a selection of other beautiful images from her senior shoot!
Class of 2015 – Rachel
Rachel was a lot of fun to work with! She went from “can’t keep a straight face, to supermodel serious, to girl-next-door” in a heartbeat! She was game for anything, and we played on the U of I quad until dark! These are just a few of my favorites. I swear these girls are killing me as I try to edit all of these amazing photos!
Delaney – Fisher High School Class of 2015
Delaney is another one of those awesome senior girls that cannot take a bad photo, and never quits smiling!!! No fear, no hesitation when I say… “Climb down those rocks or jump into that water fall!” And she does and then Awesomeness occurs! Had a blast driving all over downtown Champaign and then campus, and then back to downtown, and then back to Campus! I think it was totally worth it though cause we got some really sweet senior photos!
Cari – Tavares FL High School Class of 2015
Caroline’s mom and I have been friends for….ever! So when her girls get to be seniors, they make the trek from Central Florida to Central Illinois for me to do their Senior Portraits! Makes me feel pretty good! So here is Cari, Rockin’ Central IL!
Mindy – Fisher High School Class of 2015
Yep. That’s right folks, next year’s senior portraits are under way!!! And we started off with a BANG!!!! Beautiful Mindy didn’t want to do anything “normal”, so we didn’t. We had the pleasure of photographing at the Champaign Preservation and Conservation Association Warehouse, in and around salvaged bannisters and doors, bathtubs and radiators. Then we went around the corner and into an alley…normal until you realize she was wearing a prom dress at the time!!! A girl after my own heart, we rigged a tent ( Thanks to her dad, Jeff) and piled in cushions and books, lots of books!!! We photographed her favorite boots and a beautiful sunset, and then……the paint started flying! All in all a most wonderful way to kick-off the class of 2015 Senior portraits at Laura Trovillion Photography!!!
Three Ps to Better Senior Pictures – Part 2 – Prepare!
In our previous post on the three P’s of Better Senior Pictures, we talked about planning. Planning involves answering the questions; what you want, what to wear, where to go and when. This post breaks it down even further into how to prepare for your senior pictures!
The first step is to talk to your photographer. You need to both be on the same page and you need to schedule your Senior Portrait Session! Your photographer should be able to give you more advice as to what to wear and where to go.(unless you have somewhere specific in mind) Most photographers are not mind-readers, so you have to tell them what you want or at least what you think you want. Remember, the photographer wants what you want; Awesome Senior Portraits!
Once the date is set for your Senior Portrait Session, it is time to prepare!
- Plan to have your hair cut/colored no later than 2 weeks prior to your session. (Especially in the summer). Do NOT decide on a new hairstyle right before your senior session…This includes shaving your head for sports camps!!!! Gals if you are getting your brows waxed, schedule it a few days prior.
- Shop or select the clothes you plan to wear. Make sure everything fits well and is comfortable. If it needs ironing, do it now.
- Each outfit should be put together on a hanger, and any special undergarments, accessories or shoes go into a plastic bag, also on the hanger. Hanging clothes prevents wrinkles. Wrinkles are bad!
- If you plan to have Sportraits or other photos in a sports uniform, contact your coach ASAP, so you can have access to the uniforms you will need. If your sports portrait also requires a special location, such as a swimming pool or gym, make sure you will have access on your selected date as well. Reconfirm the week of your Portrait Session to make sure everything is a go!
- Sports uniforms, like other outfits all go together on a hanger. All gear associated with that sport should go in a duffel bag. This includes headgear, helmets, pads, goggles, balls, bats, poms, EVERYTHING you need goes into the duffel.
- If you want photos in your letter jacket, make sure it is up to date with your most recent letters and patches.
- Avoid the sun for the days prior to your Portrait Session. More specifically do not make plans to go to the beach, boating, fishing, or any event where you will be in the sun for hours on end. Not only do sunburns hurt, they are ugly when they peel and are more difficult to contend with in post production.
- Get sleep the night before…enough said
- Gals make sure your nails, fingers and toes have either no polish or are freshly polished…chipped, nasty nails just look bad.
- Guys…shave(I don’t care if it’s “No Shave November”)
So, you have talked with your photographer. You have scheduled your Senior Portrait Session. You have your outfits planned, and on hangers. You have your sports gear and permission from coach to use the pool, gym, etc. Your hair, eyebrows and nails are all done and beautiful. You have rescheduled your trip to the amusement park and the all night gaming party scheduled for the night before. Guys have a post it on their mirror that says: SHAVE!
You are officially prepared. Next we will talk about the fun part…Participation!
Thanks for reading! Hope everyone stays safe and warm through this next round of winter weather! Laura T
Senior Pictures – Hannah
Hannah was unsure coming in for her senior portraits. She doesn’t like to have her picture taken. She isn’t really crazy about a lot of makeup either. I asked her to trust me. Half-way through her shoot she was rocking the posing and looking beautiful and seeing how amazing she is. When I look at these photos, I see an AWESOME senior!!! Hair and makeup by Sarah Kellems.
Senior Photos – Taylor 2014
Taylor, a senior at St. Thomas-More, could have had a bad day, it was windy, it got cold and we had already rescheduled once. Taylor had an AWESOME day, despite the wind, her hair looked amazing. Despite the cold, she ventured into the pond. We got fun, amazing and beautiful photos for Taylor’s Senior Portrait Session! Crazy weather proof hair and makeup by Tia Crom!
Fisher Senior Girl – Macy
Macy has this wonderfully classic 40’s film star look about her. She is very into music, singing in the chorus and playing saxaphone in the band. Seeing her, you can almost imagine her standing next to a baby grand, singing the blues in some posh jazz club! Hair and makeup by Sarah Kellems
Mahomet Senior – Tim
I would never reccommend a senior wait this late in the year to get senior pictures. Sometimes, though, everything just works out beautifully. Tim is one of those crazy busy seniors that just didn’t have time for photos until this week! We lucked into a beautiful day weather-wise and the gardens at Lake of the Woods were gorgeous as well. Because Theatre and Music are two of his passions, it was only fitting to finish his senior session on the set of his last play at Mahomet High School, and a final chord on the beautiful grand piano. Tim was a pleasure to finally photograph and I wish him luck at Minnesota!

GCMS Senior – Darren
I love it when I learn new stuff from the seniors I photograph, and I definately learned all kinds of cool automotive tidbits from Darren. A senior at Gibson City, a member of FFA, and a three sport athlete, this guy knows his way around a car engine! We lucked into perfect fall weather, found some way cool vintage cars and had a whole lot of fun!
Brazil meets Midwest – Eric
Eric is a foreign exchange student from Brazil, currently attending Fisher High School as a senior. We did his “senior” photos on a beautiful fall day in the two places most near and dear to him; the soccer field and the place he calls home in the US. He is rather quiet and very polite, but his smile is awesome and he was game for all of my crazy ideas! I had a blast and hope he did as well!

2013 Central High School Senior – Claire
Claire is a fun-loving, book reading, loves-to-argue kinda girl! She was so much fun. She could pull this beautiful smile one minute and a do- you-really-want- to-mess-with-me look the next! We shot like crazy until we ran out of light and then found an indoor location and shot some more. Watch for her softball Sportraits next week!!! Hair and makeup by the awesome Sarah Kellems!
2013 Fisher Senior Girl – Alex
I knew Alex was going to be alot of fun. We did all kinds of fun photos in little out-of-the-way places on the University of Illinois Campus. Flowers, grasses, architecture, scupture and a drop dead gorgeous senior girl, its a recipe for AWESOMENESS!!!! ( and I love her freckles!!) Hair and makeup by the amazing Sarah Kellems
Mahomet Senior – Morgan
Morgan is a beautiful senior from Mahomet who wanted some fun, unique images before graduation. Hair and makeup by Sarah Kellems.

2012 Fisher Senior – Kristian
Senior shoot in January….OUTDOORS! We so totally lucked out with the weather yesterday! Kristian brought lots of great prop stuff, clothes and a totally awesome attitude! We walked around downtown Fisher, kicked back on a “beach”, and rocked some very cool photos in the studio!! But don’t just take my word for it, take a look below and tell me what you think!
2012 Fisher senior – Boyd
Boyd’s senior portrait shoot was alot of fun in spite of the weather and the late date. We were in the woods where the wind was blocked and it was quite a bit warmer than the shoot the night before, which was a blessing. Boyd has gorgeous hair and the colors of the autumn woods really complimented his coloring. He smiled alot, which was great. He seemed to be having a good time. We shot a couple of looks in the studio, and then decided to play a bit with a football shot. I think it turned out pretty cool!
2012 Fisher Senior – Justin
Justin got to be my first indoor senior of the season. While indoors was not necessarily his first choice, I think he had a pretty good time, and I think we got some Amazing shots!
2012 Gibson City Senior pictures – Jordan
Jordan is from Gibson City and his senior portrait sitting was just about what you would expect from someone who eats, sleeps and breathes soccer. The first half of the photoshoot were shots for mom. These we took in funky places and alleys in downtown Champaign. The second half of the shoot was the “fun” half and taken on the soccer fields at Parkland College. It didn’t really matter which half it was, cause Jordan totally rocked the shoot! Special thanks to Storm for helping with the lights and being the defender for the soccer shots.
2012 Fisher Senior Pictures – Dakota
Senior photos in the fall are so, so much fun! You have fallen leaves, temps that don’t make you break out in a sweat if you think too hard, the beautiful colors of the turning leaves, and some really, really sweet light. Dakota was very insistent about being outdoors in the woods, but also admitted being addicted to bling and other things that sparkle. Hmmm! I provided the woods in and around Fisher, and she brought the bling and a total willingness to try anything. We had such a blast and got such wonderful, wonderful images!!!!
2012 Mahomet Senior pictures – Ana
Beautiful girl+ beautiful weather + beautiful locations = More Awesome Senior Pictures by Laura Trovillion Photography
2012 Fisher Senior – Ashley
Ashley’s senior portrait sitting was on the Uof I campus. She wanted trees, and flowers, and grasses and cool architecture, and what better place than campus! We started at Japan House with their beautiful scuptural trees and outdoor spaces. Then we hiked to the Idea Gardens, with gorgeous flowers and grasses. Finally we headed to east campus and Krannert, the Spurlock Museum and the Administration Building for cool brick, glass (for reflections) and water. Its great to keep finding and experiencing new places and new looks in ordinary places. Ashley was super fun to work with and we got some just incredible photos!!
2012 Monticello Senior – Jesse
Jesse is from Monticello High School. Since it was so close, I just had to take her to Allerton Park for her senior portrait session! We found some great places to use as background, and Jesse was such a great model to work with! We were incredibly lucky that the weather cooled down and was just simply beautiful for her shoot! She had a special request that we do a few shots with her very best friends, so we have tacked on some BFF shots for you to see as well.
2012 Fisher senior – Parker in Action
I give my senior athletes the option of having some sports action type shots taken as part of their senior portrait sitting. We had a hold-up getting to shoot Parker’s basketball action shots, but finally we did and here are a few for your viewing pleasure! Enjoy! ( I would love to get feedback on the last shot, Motion in BW )
2012 Fisher Senior – Carson
Last night’s 2012 senior portrait was Carson. Carson came to the shoot with several really good ideas and a willingness to give any of my crazy ones a try. Carson is a three season, multisport athlete, but he is also a bit of a ham and chose to portray his athletic life in a less than serious, but accurate way. I think anyone who has school and sports is constantly trying to juggle everything! Then we got to shooting his football shots and he got down to business and intense, just look at those eyes! After the sports, we were off to the lake where we shot lots of images in and around. This one with the sky reflected in the water is probably one of my favs from the shoot. I love reflections especially when you get to do something really cool with them. Last but not least, we went to a favorite spot with a campfire. The sunset last night was amazing and was a perfect background!
2012 Fisher Senior – Parker
This 2012 senior gets bonus points for effort. Not only was his senior portrait sitting on a hot July day, but he had just come from football practice. Parker doesn’t let any grass grow under his feet participating in multiple sports both during the school year AND during the summer. He wanted to find a way, in a single shot, to convey his passion for football, basketball and baseball. I think we managed it well. He was also very much about nature and outdoors, so we utilized an old bridge with lots of wonderful mature shade trees, and also the new nature preserve just south of Fisher. The meadows there were amazing,( but the mosquitos were vicious). He’s got a great smile (even if his mom had to ham it up to get him to laugh!) and lots of enthusiasm!
So, you’re thinking about Senior Portraits…
As you may have noticed, we do a few high school senior portraits here! As the end of summer looms, I start getting lots of calls wanting to know more about our senior portraits. So I am about to embark on a shameless plug for my studio and why you should bring your senior here!( ‘Cause its my blog and all!)
I am a one woman studio, I shoot on Monday and Wednesday in the late afternoon and early evening. I then schedule ordering sessions on Tuesday and Thursday. Yes, if you had your pictures done with me on Monday or Wednesday, I CAN have them ready the following day. You just have to tell me that is what you want to do! On days that I am not shooting or meeting with clients, I am shooting sports action for Fisher High School and area papers.
The ordering session is when you will see your images for the first time, projected bigger than life on our studio wall! I do expect you to place your order at this time, and half of the order total is required as a deposit with the balance due when everything is picked up! My LTPSENIOR Crew has coupon cards good for $$ off.
One very unique thing about my studio is that we don’t limit your poses. Often you will see packages that will say ” so many 5×7’s and 8x 10’s from 3 poses”. At Laura Trovillion Photography when we state” XX number of gift prints in a package,” every single one can be different.
This year we are offering custom wall prints framed, matted and framed, gallery wrapped canvas and on metal. If you haven’t seen these, you need to stop in and lay your eyes on these awesome options as well as our new wallet tins, and pursbooks!
Which brings me to our ever popular books. There are two book options: first is our Storybook. Its called a storybook, because it tells the WHOLE STORY of your senior shoot. It is a custom hardbound book, with layflat UV coated pages and unique layouts featuring multiple images per spread. Storybooks are available as an 8×8 or new 10 x 10 size. Can you say WOW? The second is our sessionbook – its a custom hardbound offset press book. The covers are custom designed and each page has one image in a fine art format. The session book is offered in the traditional 8×8 size and also our new 10 x 10 size.
I will contact you about a week before your senior portrait sitting to discuss what you want, what your parents want, where you want to go and how we are going to make this all happen. We make a plan. Plans are good. If we don’t have a plan before your sitting, we will end up spending a chunk of your sitting…making a plan. I am a pretty creative person and we have done some pretty wild things, but I have to have a starting point and an idea of what you want, and without those, we are just spitting into the wind….and that’s not fun for anybody!
As far as the sittings go, I am pretty much game for anything short of jumping out of a plane. I have shot all over Central Illinois and have found some really, really cool places to shoot. And I am constantly on the lookout for the next awesome idea/shooting venue!
And that my friends is my shameless plug for Laura Trovillion Photography Senior Portraits! We currently have a few openings still available in September, so give me a call at 217-239-1658. We will begin booking family sessions for holiday cards and gifts on October 3!
Stay tuned right here for my latest senior….Parker Perrero!
2012 Fisher Senior – Cameron
I had another awesome and unique Senior Portrait sitting last night! This senior with the wonderful smile is Cameron, and he is a study in contrasts. He gets bonus points for preparedness, and bigger points for being so laid back about it! He was equally at home on the soccer field or in the woods. Equally comfortable in flannel shirt and jeans or a suit….Tied his own tie with a full windsor knot, no less! I always think of him as being very outgoing and social, but his favorite place is in the woods, well away from anyone. That he had such a cool favorite spot where he wanted to be photographed just really made my day! Playing in and around the woods was wonderful, right up until the point that I started thinking about ticks being in the woods, and I got the “itchyheebeegeebees!” So here are a few sneak peek photos from Cameron’s senior shoot….Leave a comment and let me know what you think!!!
2012 Fisher Senior – Jacy
Jacy chose to have a more urban theme for her Senior portraits, so we went down to Champaign and found all kinds of color and texture for backgrounds and a water fountain to play in! During our planning session, she brought up her love for sidewalk chalk, so we paid homage to her chalk artistry. Finally we went to the lake at Greenwood acres where she shows us just how elegant you can be in a beat-up rowboat! Silly, serious, intense, dramatic and just plain beautiful are all words that I would use to sum up Jacy’s senior photos. Take a look and let us know what you think!
2012 Fisher senior pictures – Dylan
Dylan’s senior pictures were an absolute blast to shoot, with one exception….It was a very hot, humid 97 degrees outside. Dylan however, kept his cool! We shot basketball, junkyard, rustic brick walls, letterman jackets, and then………..the lake. And thru it all, he was just amazing!!!
2012 Senior Pictures – First official shoot!
Elyssa is my very first official senior shoot of the 2012 class. Elyssa was the brave one, the one who didn’t hang back to see what others would do. She didn’t waver on what to wear, where to go, when is perfect….She went first. First is gutsy and hard, especially when it is as hot as it has been here in Central Illinois, but as you can see she sailed thru this senior portrait shoot beautifully.
Fisher Senior 2012 – Pictures as Stories
Its funny sometimes how life travels in circles. I find myself circling back in my photography to a place where my photos tell a story. Not an intricate full on tale, but a moment captured that tells you more about the person than just that they are beautiful. I tweaked this concept with my Class of 2012 Crew. We got a little crazy with some of them, but I wanted to really put an exclamation point to each story. Senior Pictures are such an amazing milestone in the lives of our kids and I feel that their stories should be told!
2011 Senior – Nick
Nick is a 2011 senior, in Virginia. Fortunately for me, he has alot of family here in Fisher IL and when the family made plans to spend part of their spring break here, they contacted me about shooting his senior pictures! He is one of those people who has a great serious face, the kind that is intense without looking mad. He does also have a great smile that his mom kept reminding him about. We lucked out in that the weather was merely drizzling instead of the predicted downpour and we could go out and about, shooting on location. We finished up in the studio, showing off his football jersey and the muscles that go with it!
